What can you do with online science programs? Degrees in science lead to a large range of job options. This page discusses some of these options.

The entry level degree for most science related jobs is usually a bachelor's degree or higher, but with an online science certificate or associate degree, you may be able to work as a medical laboratory assistant or technician. A master's degree or PhD is usually required for research and college or university teaching. Most online science programs include a solid foundation in chemistry, mathematics, and computer science.

This page provides information on several areas in which you can obtain a science degree, and wherever possible links to other pages with further details.

Architecture

Architecture is one of the more artistic online science programs that you could take.  It is viewed as the science, art, and practice of designing and building structures in accordance according to the functionality of the structure. As an architecture student you would study the spatial relationships, arrangement and visual rhythm of the components within a structured environment.

Aviation

Aerospace degrees and aviation degree include in-flight and ground support operations, management, economy and security.  Seen ss one of the exciting online science programs, aviation degrees, programs and courses also include the technical, business, and general aspects of air transportation.  Aviation mechanics and technology degrees prepare students for careers in aircraft maintenance and repair.

Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics refers to information processes in living systems. A bioinformatics degree is a science degree comprising biology, chemistry and computer science.  It is at the forefront of medical discovery and graduates are in high demand.

Biology

Biology degrees focus on living organisms and how they interact with their environments.  This is one of the online science programs that provides a foundation for careers in medicine, nursing, bioengineering and biochemistry.  Careers that result from an online biology degree are lucrative and in demand. Master's and PhD programs emphasize a sub-field of biology such as botany or marine biology.

Chemistry

Chemistry is the study of molecules and their reactions, properties, and structure. Within the field, there are many different areas for specialization, such as materials, inorganic, organic, environmental, nanoscience, physical, and biological chemistry. Degree programs consist of fundamental chemistry courses as well as classes in mathematics, biology, and physics. In general you would enroll in lectures as well as attend hands-on labs.

Dietetics and Nutrition Science

Dietetics and nutrition science degrees are on campus and online science programs that are informed by the same areas, including: biology, biochemistry, psychology, anatomy, physiology, nutrition science, food and culture, ethics, computers, infectious diseases, food service management, and nutrition therapy. They train professionals whose job is to create nutritional eating plans and provide education to communities about healthy eating to prevent illnesses.

Environmental Science

Environmental science is defined as the study of chemical, biological, and physical aspects of the environment interacting together. A degree in environmental science provides an interdisciplinary and quantitative approach to examining ecosystems. It covers topics that include biodiversity, conservation, soil science, hydrology, climate change, waste management, sustainable development and resources, air and noise pollution, and responsible use of natural resources.

Library Science

To earn a degree in library science, more than likely you would first need to have a bachelors degree in a particular area, Students in library media or library science take courses in cataloging, book history, printing, copyright laws, organizing information, database management, etc. You can then pursue a online library science masters. The masters library science degree and other graduate programs in library information science also include courses in intellectual freedom and censorship, and information literacy.

Mathematics

Mathematics is the study of quantity, change, structure, and space. Applied mathematics reduces practical problems to their most basic, mathematical units. By using mathematical techniques and computer technology, applied math is used to problem-solve various issues including new medical drug research, and deciphering encryption systems for the security systems.

Physics

Physics is the branch of science that that deals with matter and energy and their actions with each other. These online science programs can be studied in fields of electricity, aeronautics, heat, light, mechanics, and sound, so you can do many things with a physics degree.  In addition to teaching, career options are available in astronomy, engineering, geo-science, atmospheric science, computer programming, and environmental engineering.

Psychology

Psychology is the theory of the human mind - it can give us some idea of why we behave in a particular way and in this way enable us to help people function more effectively.  In a general pschology program you learn about physical, cognitive, emotional, or social aspects of human behavior.  You are introduced to a variety of research methods and how to administer personality, performance, aptitude, or intelligence tests.  Psychology is sometimes classed as a science and sometimes as a social science.
